West Rail telecommunications contract awarded
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today (Thursday) announced the award of a $286.76 million telecommunications system contract for West Rail Phase I.
Contract DB-1500 is awarded to Siemens Ltd for the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of West Rail's telecommunications system.
The telecommunications system is made up of seven subsystems, namely a Fibre Optic Transmissions System, a telephone system, a radio system, a public address system, a Passenger Information Display System, a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System and a Metropolitan Area Network.
A KCRC spokesman said the contract is awarded through competitive tendering procedures which comply with World Trade Organisation requirements.
The construction of West Rail Phase I is packaged into 17 civil construction contracts and about 20 railway operation systems contracts.With the award of this telecommunications contract, a total of 15 civil construction contracts and 11 railway operation systems contracts have so far been awarded at a total value of about HK$ 25.38 billion.
