West Rail awards two major contracts
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today (Thursday) announced the award of one civil construction contract and one systems contract for West Rail Phase I worth a combined value of HK$723.81 million.
Contract CC-604 is awarded to Costain - China Harbour Joint Venture for the construction of the West Rail Depot Buildings at a contract sum of HK$693 million.
The depot buildings comprise the main depot building, which is approximately 300 metres long and 60 metres wide, and eight other ancillary buildings, all to be constructed on the site of the West Rail Depot at Pat Heung.The contract also includes specified design and procurement elements for all architectural, building services, electrical and mechanical works related to operations of the depot buildings.
With the award of this contract, all civil construction contracts have been awarded, except the construction of West Rail Headquarters which will be awarded in the first quarter of the year 2000.
Contract DB-1530 is awarded at a contract sum of US$3.95 million to Booz Allen & Hamilton (Australia) Ltd for the design, manufacture, verification, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning and technical support for a complete computer-based Integrated Training System. The interactive system will be used to train all operational staff for West Rail.
A KCRC spokesman said the contracts are awarded through competitive tendering procedures which comply with World Trade Organisation requirements.
The construction of West Rail Phase I is packaged into 17 civil construction contracts and about 20 railway operation systems contracts.With the award of these contracts, a total of 16 civil construction contracts and 12 railway operation systems contracts have so far been awarded at a total value of about HK$ 26 billion.
