Contract for West Rail tunnel ventilation system awarded
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today announced the award of the contract for West Rail's Tunnel Ventilation System at a value of HK$104.94 million.
The ventilation system will cover about 14 km of the 30.5-km West Rail alignment, extending from the northern portal of Tai Lam Tunnel, the longest transport tunnel in Hong Kong, to the overrun tunnel at Nam Cheong Station in the south. It will also cover three enclosed stations, namely Nam Cheong Station, Mei Foo Station and Tsuen Wan West Station.
A KCRC spokesman said the contract is awarded through competitive tendering procedures which comply with World Trade Organisation requirements.
The construction of West Rail Phase I is packaged into 17 civil construction contracts and about 20 railway operation systems contracts.With the award of the contract, a total of 16 civil construction contracts and 13 railway operation systems contracts have so far been awarded at a total value of about HK$26 billion.
