KCRC awards contract for West Rail operational headquarters building
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today announced the award of an HK$280.85 million contract for building the operational headquarters of West Rail.
Contract CC-603 is awarded to Sun Fook Kong Joint Venture for the construction of the 8-storey West Rail Headquarters Building, which is located close to the new Kam Sheung Road Station in Kam Tin.
The Building is to be completed in 2002, in time for the West Rail operational team to move in and commence trial running of West Rail, which is scheduled to commence service to the public by December 2003.
The Building will be the operational control centre for the 30.5-km West Rail, which will run between Tuen Mun and Sham Shui Po in urban Kowloon.
The Corporation also announced the award of Contract SP-1901, in the sum of HK$23.92 million, to Mitsubishi Electric (Hong Kong) Limited for the supply of two mock-ups of the driving compartment of the new West Rail trains and for the simulation of the driving environment for training purposes.
A KCRC spokesman said the contracts are awarded through competitive tendering procedures, which comply with World Trade Organisation requirements.
The construction of West Rail Phase I is packaged into 17 civil construction contracts and about 20 railway operation systems contracts. With the award of these two contracts, 15 railway operation systems contracts and all 17 civil construction contracts have been awarded. The total value of these contracts amount to HK$26.31 billion.
