KCR East Rail emergency procedures tested
"A fire broke out under the coach of a double-deck Ktt Through Train when running in the Beacon Hill Tunnel at about 1:45 am today. Train attendants immediately put out the fire by fire extinguishers. 20 passengers on board were injured when the train came to a sudden halt. The Fire Services Department arrived shortly to rescue the passengers ......"
The above formed the scenario of a joint exercise held this morning by KCR East Rail and various emergency services departments to test the effectiveness in carrying out emergency evacuation and rescue procedures. The exercise was held after midnight to avoid causing any inconvenience to travelling passengers.
"We conduct emergency drills regularly to measure our own efficiency in handling emergencies as well as enhance co-operation and co-ordination among all involved parties. Everything went smoothly this morning and we were pleased with the results of the test," said Mr. Louis Leung, Quality, Safety and Training Manager of KCR East Rail.
In addition to KCR East Rail, the Fire Services Department, the Hong Kong Police, the Caritas Medical Centre, the Civil Aid Services and the Auxiliary Medical Services also participated in the drill.
