New Generation of KCRC Train Arrive in Hong Kong
 
The first shipment of a new generation of trains for Kowloon - Canton Railway Corporation arrived in Hong Kong from Japan today.
A total of 250 new train cars will be delivered to Hong Kong from today until 2003 under the Corporation’s train car contract that carries a price tag of HK$3.1 billion. This is the largest train car contract in dollar terms ever awarded in Hong Kong.
Of the 250 new train cars, 96 cars will be used on East Rail and 154 cars on West Rail.
Following delivery today, the new trains will be commissioned and undergo test runs before they come into operation in the third quarter of this year.
