Spotlight on new KCR train cars in current issue of Trackrecord
The first batch of Hong Kong’s most advanced train cars arrived on 22 March at the KCR Hung Hom Freightyard. Designed to run on East Rail and West Rail, Phase I, when it opens in 2003, the new trains are featured in the current issue of Trackrecord.
More of these sleek new cars will soon be on the way, and once they are tested and passed, will go into service on East Rail this August. A total of 250 train cars will eventually be made for KCRC, including 96 for East Rail and 154 for West Rail, at a cost of $3.1 billion.
In this month’s Trackrecord we also cover the awarding of the final batch of civil construction contracts for the Tsim Sha Tsui Extension of the East Rail Extensions project, as well as the guided media tour that took place at West Rail construction sites in late February. Both stories demonstrate that the Corporation is making good progress with its capital projects and that these projects are proceeding on time and within budget.
Other stories in the current issue show how KCRC continues to get involved in community events and works to promote safety and good service in its train operations.
