Launch of Dongguan (Changping) – Kowloon through train service on 28 June
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) and Guangshen Railway Company Ltd announced that the Dongguan (Changping) – Kowloon through train will be launched on 28 June. The new service will help strengthen the tie between Hong Kong and the Mainland, as well as cope with the anticipated increase in passenger demand.
With effect from 28 June, a pair of Dongguan (Changping) – Kowloon through trains will run on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. The new northbound train T818 is scheduled to depart from KCR Hung Hom Station at 6:20 pm; while the southbound T823 is scheduled to depart from Dongguan (Changping) at 8 pm. The new shuttle service will be run by the Mainland’s semi-high speed train which has a capacity of 586 seats.
With the rapid growth in business and property development in Dongguan Changping in recent years, the demand for through train service has been increasing as a result of a closer link between the people of Hong Kong and the Mainland. The demand is particularly high during weekends and holidays. At present, there are seven pairs of through trains running between Hong Hong and Guangzhou, of which three pairs of trains stop at Dongguan (Changping) Station. Since 1994, the patronage of Dongguan through train service has an average increase of 26% per annum. With the launch of Dongguan (Changping) – Kowloon through train, it is anticipated that the patronage will be increased by 7% this year when compared with last year.
Dongguan (Changping) – Kowloon through train tickets will be sold at HK$145 (adult) and $73 (child). Starting from 13 June, tickets will be available at the Intercity Passenger Services Centre located at the KCR East Rail Hung Hom Station, the ticket offices of Mong Kok, Kowloon Tong and Shatin stations; the Light Rail Tuen Mun Ferry Pier Terminus Customer Services Centre or the appointed ticket agents. Besides, passenger can also purchase the tickets through the Intercity Tele-ticketing Hotline on 2947 7888 with credit card.
