KCRC Tsim Sha Tsui Extension hoarding design competition
Winning designs now at Tsim Sha Tsui East promenade
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation today announced the results of the Tsim Sha Tsui Extension Hoarding Design Competition. Enlarged winning designs will be exhibited at the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade starting from today.
The Competition invited members of the public to share their vision on what Tsim Sha Tsui might look when the extension is completed in 2004. There were two categories for the competition: Public and Secondary School.
The results are as follows:
Public Category:
Champion: Tang Siu Wai
1st Runner-up: Simon Yung
2nd Runner-up: Liang Chung Shun
Secondary School Category:
Champion: Lau Hei Man, True Light Middle School, Kowloon
1st Runner-up: Chick Hoi Yan, Sacred Heart Canossian College
2nd Runner-up: Choi Hoi Ying, Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College
Mr K K Lee, Director, East Rail Extensions speaking at the Prize Presentation Ceremony said, "Tsim Sha Tsui Extension is one of the important infra-structural works to tie in with the Government' s plan in expanding the railway network. Upon the completion of the Tsim Sha Tsui Extension in 2004, fellow citizens and tourists could enjoy greater convenience by using the environmentally friendly railway system plying between Tsim Sha Tsui East and the New Territories. The new extension will help alleviating traffic congestion and will become a second interchange station with MTR apart from Kowloon Tong Station."
Tsim Sha Tsui Extension will extend southwards from the existing railway terminus at Hung Hom by 1 kilometer to East Tsim Sha Tsui. The extension will run underground below Salisbury Road curving away to a new station below Wing On Plaza Garden and the Middle Road Children's Playground. There will be pedestrian subways linking up the new KCR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station and the MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station . The project is scheduled for completed in 2004.
