KCRC welcomes DEP’s approval of Spur Line EIA report
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today (Monday) welcomed the approval by the Director of Environmental Protection (DEP) with conditions of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the combined tunnel and viaduct scheme of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line.
A KCRC spokesman said, "DEP’s decision represents a big step forward in the implementation of this project which will provide a second rail crossing to relieve the growing congestion at Lo Wu."
"We will amend the EIA report in compliance with the conditions set out by DEP.
"This afternoon, we submitted an application for an environmental permit and are prepared to implement fully the conditions DEP may attach to it.
"In line with our environmental policy, we will set up a high-powered Environmental Committee under the chairmanship of a member of our senior management to oversee the implementation of the mitigation measures. Key stakeholders including green groups will be invited to sit on the committee.
"We will build into the contract awards stringent control of the contractors’ activities including heavy penalty for violation of permit conditions and on-site supervision by KCRC engineers," the spokesman said.
