KCRC welcomes authorization of Lok Ma Chau Spur Line
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today (Friday) welcomed the authorization of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line by the Chief Executive in Council under the Railways Ordinance.
A KCRC spokesman said, "It is most encouraging to see that the project has received the green light from the Government.?The Corporation aims to complete the tendering process as soon as possible. Subject to the Managing Board's approval, we hope that construction would begin in the fourth quarter this year.
"We are committed to implementing fully the conditions set out in the Environmental Permit and are now actively considering candidates for appointment to the Environmental Committee prior to commencement of construction.
"To maintain an effective two-way dialogue with the community, we have set up a telephone hotline (tel no. 2668 6610) and a community liaison counter at Sheung Shui Station to answer enquiries about the project."
The combined viaduct and tunnel scheme of the Spur Line is targeted for completion in 2007 to provide a second crossing for railway passengers and to relieve congestion at Lo Wu.
