Joint exercise by KCR East Rail and the Hong Kong Police Force

KCR East Rail and the Hong Kong Police Force jointly organised an emergency drill in the early morning today to enhance co-operation and improve efficiency in carrying out emergency operations.
The exercise simulated a robbery case which took place in Sheung Shui. Three robbers boarded a southbound East Rail train at Sheung Shui Station after the robbery and held more than 10 passengers as hostages during the train journey. When the train arrived at Tai Po Market Station, police and East Rail staff jointly carried out emergency evacuation and rescue operation. The robbers were finally apprehended by the police.
The exercise went on smoothly this morning and the result was satisfactory. The exercise was held after close of traffic to avoid causing any inconvenience to passengers.
Mr Louis Leung, East Rail's Quality, Safety and Training Manager said that a total of five emergency drills with different settings and scenarios are organized each year to strengthen efficiency of the rescue team. These include drills involving Police, Fire Services Department, Hospital Authority and other emergency service organisations.
