KCRC welcomes Government's announcement on KSL

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today (Tuesday) welcomed the Government's announcement to invite the Corporation to build and operate the Kowloon Southern Link (KSL).
A KCRC spokesman said, " It is encouraging to see that this important project, which will connect the two strategic railways of East Rail and West Rail, has received the go ahead from the Government.
"The 4.5-km alignment will connect Nam Cheong Station, the southern terminus of West Rail with Tsim Sha Tsui East Station of East Rail. There will be two intermediate stations situated in Canton Road and West Kowloon reclamation.
"The travelling public will benefit from the KSL by way of shorter journey times and cheaper fares. Upon its completion in 2008, commuters will be able to stay within one system in travelling in the New Territories, and between the New Territories, Kowloon, and Hong Kong Island.
"This also marks an important milestone in completing the KCRC network. With the go ahead for the KSL, all we need now is the Northern Link to complete the territory-wide loop," the spokesman added.
