Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Environmental Committee Meeting kicks off
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) held the inaugural meeting of Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Environmental Committee today.
Mr. James Blake, KCRC Senior Director, Capital Projects, who chaired the Committee said, "The Committee provides an effective forum to advise on and monitor the implementation of the proposed mitigation measures of the Spur Line project. The Corporation aims to ensure that the overall project will result in no net loss in the ecological function of the habitats concerned."
The Environmental Committee comprises representatives from green groups including World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong, Friends of the Earth (HK) and Hong Kong Bird Watching Society, Environmental Consultants and senior management of KCRC.
Committee members were briefed about the latest progress of the project and the wetland enhancement works at Lok Ma Chau, and exchanged views concerning the tasks ahead.
Major civil construction contracts of the Spur Line are expected to be underway by November this year. The Spur Line links East Rail with a second boundary crossing for railway passengers to relieve increasing congestion at Lo Wu. The Lok Ma Chau crossing is targeted to commence for operations in 2007.
