East Rail train service and passenger traffic arrangements during National Day festive period

In view of an expected surge in the number of tour groups coming to Hong Kong via the Lo Wu boundary during the National Day festive period, KCR East Rail will arrange special facilities for use by tour groups. Passenger traffic will be closely monitored and train service regulated to ensure a smooth operation.
The Immigration Department anticipates that there will be a large number of mainland tour groups coming to Hong Kong on National Day (1 October), many of which will be arriving via the Lo Wu boundary. To cope with the increase in passenger traffic, East Rail will increase manpower at Lo Wu Station and make special arrangements to facilitate tour groups using East Rail. They include:
•      Reserving a waiting area and designated ticket counters at the arrival concourse at Lo Wu Station and the main concourse at Hung Hom Station
•      Arranging for designated ticket gates at the arrival concourse at Lo Wu Station and the main concourse of Hung Hom Station
•      Extending the use of a special channel at the departure concourse of Lo Wu Station
•      Reminding tour groups to proceed to the front end of platform for boarding to avoid congestion
A spokesman for the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation said close coordination will be maintained with government departments and the boundary authorities. Train services will be regulated to tie in with the handling capacity of the boundary facilities both on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides during the peak period.
Additionally, East Rail will strengthen train service to cope with passenger demand for the fireworks display to be held at Victoria Harbour on the evening of 1 October. Between 9:30 pm and 11 pm, a total of eight additional trains will run between Hung Hom and Sheung Shui stations. Train service will be at a frequency of about 4 minutes.

During National Day festive period, designated ticket gates will be available at Lo Wu and Hung Hom Stations for tour groups.

The special channel at the departure concourse of Lo Wu Station will be extended for use by tour groups.
