Destination display panels on Light Rail vehicles being upgraded
Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) is upgrading the conventional route number and destination display panels on its fleet of 99 Light Rail vehicles to electronic display panels.
The first vehicle fitted with the newly-designed electronic panels was put into service today (28 October).
Currently, 99 out of the 119 vehicles in Light Rail’s fleet are fitted with roller blinds showing the route number and destination at the front and the left side of a vehicle. The conventional panels are being phased out gradually by electronic display panels.
The upgrading work also includes the addition of a display panel at the rear of a vehicle. The project will be completed by March 2003.
Costing about HK$7 million, the work forms part of the on-going programme to improve the Light Rail services.
