Test runs on the Automatic Train Operation System
To ensure a smooth running of East Rail trains under the new Automatic Train Operation system (ATO), the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) will carry out test runs from 3 November until mid December 2002.
During the period, non-passenger service East Rail trains will run in both directions between Hung Hom and Lo Wu stations during non-peak hours. Two trains will also run for two nights every week after close of traffic.
Notices were posted at stations to inform passengers of the test runs. Affected residents have also been informed of the test runs schedule through direct mailing and notices at the management offices of respective housing estates.
A KCRC spokesman said to ensure daytime traffic will not be affected, the test runs have been scheduled for non-peak hours and after close of traffic.
The upgrade to automatic train operation for KCR East Rail is scheduled for completion in end 2002. The new ATO system can enhance the reliability of train operation and train frequency.
