Award of scheme design contracts for SCL
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) has awarded all of the seven scheme design consultancy contracts for the Sha Tin to Central Link (SCL).
A KCRC spokesman said, "The awards with a total value of $471 million are a major step forward to bring better and more integrated rail services to the people of Hong Kong.
"When the SCL opens in 2008, it will bring shorter journey time and greater convenience to KCR passengers crossing the harbour from Kowloon and the New Territories to Hong Kong Island and vice versa."
"The 18-km rail link will satisfy the transport demand by the growing population in the Northeast New Territories, and support the future developments in Southeast Kowloon," the spokesman added.
The awards have been made to the highest-ranked tenderers rated in accordance with pre-determined criteria in conformity with the WTO rules. The Managing Board has approved the awards as follows:
