KCRC to install Passenger Information Display Units at Light Rail stops
As part of the HK$2.3 billion programe to improve and upgrade the Light Rail system, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today (16 April) started installing LCD display units at all of the Light Rail terminuses and stops.
The Passenger Information Display (PID) Units which are expected to be in operation this summer will display in both English and Chinese the arrival time of the next light rail vehicle at a stop and the time of the next departure at a terminus.
Installation is now taking place at Light Rail stops in Tin Shui Wai. The work will extend gradually to cover the whole of the Light Rail network. A total of 180 display units will be installed at a cost of HK$43 million.
A KCRC spokesman said, "When the PID system is in operation, Light Rail passengers will have first-hand information as to when will the next vehicle arrive and how much longer they have to wait for the next departure if they are waiting at the terminus."
