Free East Rail tickets to medical staff recovered from SARS

In gratitude of their selflessness and courage, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation is offering the medical staff who contracted SARS while caring for the infected three months of free East Rail tickets.
More than 330 medical staff will benefit from this offer, which gives them the opportunity to ride on the standard class of East Rail’s domestic service (between Hung Hom and Sheung Shui) from August to October 2003.
Mr Anthony Yan, General Manager – East Rail Operations, today presented a giant ticket to Dr Beatrice Cheng, Senior Executive Manager (Professional Services), Hospital Authority. During the presentation, Mr Yan said the declaration by the World Health Organisation that Hong Kong was SARS free on 23 June would help to restore Hong Kong’s vitality. The provision of free tickets is a sign of encouragement to these medical staff. Mr Yan encouraged them to return to the community and lead a normal life and also wished those who were still in the hospital a speedy recovery.
In the mean time, East Rail will launch a "Keep East Rail Clean" education campaign to promote the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment in East Rail stations and trains.
