New environmentally-friendly diesel locomotives arrive in Hong Kong
A new generation of diesel locomotives for the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) arrived Hong Kong from Germany today.
The five new environmentally-friendly diesel locomotives, first introduced to Asia, will be used to haul freight trains and engineering trains on East Rail. The $130 million contract was awarded to Siemens Ltd in 2001.
Following the delivery today, the new diesel locomotives will undergo stringent testing before they are put into operation in early 2004.
