Service improvements to Beijing-Kowloon and Shanghai-Kowloon Through Trains

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) and the Mainland railway authorities today announced that with effect from 1 October 2003, the customs and immigration formalities for passengers of Beijing-Kowloon and Shanghai-Kowloon Through Trains will be further simplified. The Mainland immigration formalities will be handled in Beijing West and Shanghai stations.
In the past, passengers were required to alight at Dongguan (Changping) Station for immigration formalities. With the immigration formalities handled at Beijing West and Shanghai stations, passengers will be able to enjoy a direct and a more comfortable journey.
To tie in with the new arrangements, passengers taking Beijing-Kowloon and Shanghai-Kowloon Through Trains to Hong Kong are advised to arrive at Beijing West or Shanghai stations for immigration formalities 90 minutes before the scheduled train departure. Immigration formalities will stop 15 minutes before the train departure in the Mainland. As with the current practice, northbound passengers travelling to Beijing and Shanghai are advised to arrive at Hung Hum Station 45 minutes before the scheduled train departure. Immigration formalities will stop 10 minutes before the train departure at Hung Hom.
