Joint exercise by KCR East Rail and the Hong Kong Police Force

KCR East Rail and the Hong Kong Police Force jointly organised an emergency drill today to enhance co-operation and improve efficiency in carrying out emergency operations.
The exercise simulated a robbery case which took place in Sheung Shui. Three robbers boarded a Hung Hom bound East Rail train at Sheung Shui Station after the robbery and held more than 10 passengers hostage during the train journey. When the train arrived at Racecourse Station, Police and East Rail staff jointly carried out emergency evacuation and rescue operation. The robbers were finally apprehended by Police.
The exercise went on smoothly this afternoon and the result was satisfactory. The exercise was held in Racecourse Station to avoid causing any inconvenience to passengers.
Mr Louis Leung, Quality, Safety and Training Manager of East Rail, said that five large-scale emergency drills with different scenarios are organised each year. Three of the exercises involve the participation of other government departments, while two are internal ‘surprise exercises’. In addition, all KCR stations are expected to carry out their own emergency drills on a monthly basis.
