KCRC Light Rail Tin Shui Wai extensions to open on 7 December

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) announced today (28 November) that the two new Light Rail Extensions in Tin Shui Wai would be opened for passenger service on 7 December (Sunday).
The two new extensions, with a combined length of 4.4 kilometres, will have 11 new stops. They will give 150,000 residents living along their routes direct access to the Light Rail network which will be linked up with West Rail.
There will be two new Light Rail routes – 751 (Tin Yat – Yau Oi) and 761 (Tin Wing – Yuen Long) serving the new extensions and the existing Light Rail stops in Tin Shui Wai new town. The existing routes 720 and 721 will be withdrawn when the new routes 751 and 761 commence operation on 7 December.
To enable passengers to familiarize with the facilities in the new extensions, members of the public will be able to take a trial ride on the new extensions on 30 November and 6 December. Free tickets for the trial rides will be issued to residents along the new extensions by way of mail-drop. Other passengers will be required to pay the normal fare.
Mr Jonathan Yu, Director, Light Rail said, "The Tin Shui Wai Extensions project is part of the KCRC’s $2.3 billion improvement programme to upgrade Light Rail to become an effective feeder system of West Rail.
"The new extensions will give Tin Shui Wai residents a better choice in travelling within NT region and with the opening of West Rail, more convenience and comfort in travelling to the urban area.
When West Rail opens, residents in Tin Shui Wai will be served by a third Light Rail route 701 which will be a circular route linking up several major housing estates with West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station.
To ensure that passengers can adapt easily to the changes brought about by the commissioning of the Light Rail extensions and West Rail, KCRC has also enhanced its bus services in Tin Shui Wai by operating three new bus services, two of which are temporary services which will be withdrawn soon after the opening of West Rail, as follows:

•         Bus route K75P (Tin Shui – Hung Shui Kiu Circular);
•         Temporary bus route K76 (Tin Heng – West Rail Siu Hong Station); and
•         Temporary bus route K2P (Tin Shui Wai Town Centre – Tuen Mun Town Centre)
