|The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) records 17,500 passengers riding on West Rail from 10:00am to 3:00pm on the first day of the West Rail Charity Trial Rides.|
|The 3-day event kicked off today from 10:00am to 00:45am, with the first 5 operating hours carrying 17,500 passengers using the new railway.
|The West Rail Charity Trial Rides will carry on for the two following days, from 05:45am to 00:45am. A flat fare of $15 for adults and $7.5 for children and senior citizens will be charged for each passenger journey. All proceeds from the charity rides will be donated to charity.|
|At today's opening ceremony, KCRC Chairman Mr Michael Tien said, "In the past few weeks, the trial run of West Rail has achieved outstanding result. The punctuality and service delivery have reached 99% and 99.6% respectively." |
|He said, "This public ride also lets the station front line staff gain the first hand railway operating experience, which is very valuable for the staff in providing better service after West Rail is put into operation."|
|The West Rail will be open to the public at 2:00pm this Saturday (20 December 2003). |
