KCRC provides overnight train services on Chinese New Year’s Eve
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) will provide overnight train service on all of its networks on Chinese New Year’s Eve (21 January 2004) for the convenience of the travelling public. Service hours will also be extended on three KCR bus routes.
The special service arrangements are as follows:
East Rail domestic line
(between Sheung Shui and Hung Hom)
All eight routes will provide overnight service
Three routes (506, K51 & A74) will
extend their service hours to 2:00am
Service hours will also be extended on the East Rail domestic line to 2am on the first and second day of the Chinese New Year (22 and 23 January). The last northbound train to Sheung Shui will depart from Hung Hom at 2:00am, and the last southbound train will depart from Sheung Shui at 2:00am.
There will be no extension of service hours for West Rail, Light Rail and KCR Bus.
For passengers returning to the New Territories after the fireworks display on the second day of the Chinese New Year (23 February), East Rail domestic service between 8:30pm and 10:00pm on that day will increase to a frequency of 4-minute intervals.
As travellers are expected to visit the Mainland in greater numbers during the Chinese New Year holiday, KCRC will closely monitor passenger traffic and regulate trains to and from Lo Wu during this period to ensure smooth service.
A KCRC spokesman said the Corporation would be in close contact with government departments and boundary authorities during the holiday period. Train services will be regulated to tie in with the handling capacity of the boundary authorities on both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides.
The spokesman also reminded cross-boundary passengers to pay attention to the opening hours of the Lo Wu boundary checkpoint when planning their journey. During the holiday period, the last northbound train to Lo Wu will depart from Hung Hom at the usual time of 11:07pm.
Notices will be displayed at all stations informing passengers of the special service arrangements. For details, passengers may call the KCRC Hotline on 2929 3399.
