KCRC conducted Light Rail emergency exercise
Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) held a Light Rail emergency exercise today (19 March) at Hung Tin Road Emergency Platform to test the response times and co-ordination of KCRC staff and various emergency services teams in carrying out rescue operations and handling emergency situations.
The exercise simulated the collision of a bus with a light rail vehicle after the bus made a sudden turn to avoid hitting a pedestrian. The collision resulted in the derailment of the light rail vehicle and the injury of 16 passengers. The pedestrian, who tried to avoid the bus, was hit by the light rail vehicle and trapped underneath it.
Staff of the Fire Services Department arrived swiftly at the scene to evacuate passengers and clear the site with the assistance of KCRC staff.
"The procedures in handling emergencies as well as the co-operation and co-ordination among all involved parties were tested. All the participating organizations were satisfied with the response time and the teamwork between the departments and KCRC", said a KCRC spokesman.
He added that similar exercises would be conducted regularly to ensure efficient and effective co-ordination among the various rescue teams.
