30 March 2004
Launch of two additional pairs of Guangzhou-Kowloon Through Train on 18 April 2004
To meet the increasing passenger demand, Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) and the Mainland railway authorities will strengthen the Guangzhou-Kowloon Through Train (GZTT) services. Beginning 18 April 2004, two additional pairs of through trains will be run between Guangzhou and Kowloon each day, increasing the frequency of GZTT services from ten pairs a day to twelve.
A KCRC spokesman said the support rendered by the governments of Guangdong province and the HKSAR was crucial to securing the additional GZTT services. The service enhancement embodies an increase in the Ktt service from two pairs to three pairs a day. Moreover, the further extension of GZTT services in the evening will be conducive to satisfying the demand of day trip travellers. According to the new timetable, the through train frequency will be improved to approximately one train per hour and the number of trains calling at Dongguan will be increased from six in both directions to eight trains for northbound and nine trains for southbound.
The eleventh pair of GZTT, operated with the Ktt, will run on the following schedule: T820 (northbound) will depart from Hung Hom at 6:06 pm and arrive at Guangzhou East at 7:48 pm. T825 (southbound) will depart from Guangzhou East at 8:20 pm and arrive at Hung Hom at 10:12 pm, and will call at Dongguan.
The twelfth pair of GZTT, operated with a Mainland high-speed train, will run on the following schedule: T822 (northbound) will depart from Hung Hom at 7:15 pm and arrive at Guangzhou East at 9 pm. T827 (southbound) will depart from Guangzhou East at 9:23 pm and arrive at Hung Hom at 11 pm.
Alongside this frequency enhancement, the timetable and train numbers of the existing GZTT services will be adjusted. Please refer to the attached new timetable for details.
Starting from 31 March (Wednesday), tickets will be available at the Intercity Passenger Services Centre located in the East Rail Hung Hom Station, the ticket offices of Mong Kok, Kowloon Tong and Sha Tin stations, Customer Services Centres at Light Rail Tuen Mun Ferry Pier Terminus and West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station; and the outlets of appointed ticketing agents. Passengers can also call the Intercity Tele-ticketing and Enquiry Hotline on 2947 7888 for booking tickets by credit card.
