KCRC strengthens Light Rail feeder service
Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) will further strengthen Light Rail feeder services for West Rail starting from this Sunday (4 April).
The new service arrangements include the introduction of a new Light Rail route in Tin Shui Wai and the reformation of two long-distance routes in Tuen Mun.
Effective 4 April (Sunday), half of the trips on Light Rail routes 614 (Tuen Mun Ferry Pier – Yuen Long) and 615 (Tuen Mun Ferry Pier – Yuen Long) will run a shorter route length and be re-numbered as 614P and 615P. These short routes will operate in a circular mode between Tuen Mun Ferry Pier and Siu Hong.
The overall service frequency of 614/614P and 615/615P in Tuen Mun will remain unchanged.
A spokesman for KCRC said that this arrangement will enable passengers to travel more conveniently within the Tuen Mun area, and the vehicles made idle by the introduction of the new shorter routes will be redeployed to serve areas with greater passenger demand.
Effective 9 April (Friday), a new circular route, 706, linking several large housing estates in Tin Shui Wai with the West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station, will be introduced.
The spokesman said that the new route would further enhance the feeder service for West Rail in Tin Shui Wai.
The spokesman added that according to the latest statistics, a significant amount of long-distance Light Rail passengers had already shifted to West Rail, because it provided a fast and reliable railway service. As a result, demand for short but higher frequency Light Rail routes feeding passengers to West Rail is increasing.
This service arrangement will further enhance Light Rail’s role as a major feeder for West Rail in the North West New Territories, he added.
To help familiarize passengers with the changes, there will be extensive education and publicity programmes including posters, banners, notices and public announcements at stops.
For details on the new service arrangements, passengers may call the KCRC hotline at 2929 3399.
