KCRC augments Light Rail service for back-to-school period
More than 10,000 Tin Shui Wai residents will enjoy added convenience for a direct Light Rail service between Tin Shui Wai areas and West Rail station starting the coming Sunday (22 August).
The extension of Route 701 to Tin Shui Wai North will become effective on 22 August. The route will be renamed as Route 705 and run in a circular mode from Tin Shui Wai Stop (underneath West Rail Station) via Tin Tsz, Ginza, Tin Yuet, Wetland Park, Tin Heng, Chung Fu, Tin Shui, Tin Yiu and back to Tin Shui Wai Stop. The frequency of the extended route will remain at seven minutes.
Mr Michael Lai, General Manager, Marketing of Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation said, "The new arrangement will enhance Light Rail service and tie in with the expected increase in passenger demand when the new school year commenced in September.
KCRC will also introduce a peak-hour short route 751P running between Tin Yat and West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station. The route will run in parellel with the existing 751, to link up several large housing estates in Tin Shui Wai. The combined frequency of 751 and 751P will be stepped up to four minutes, compared to a seven-minute frequency of the existing 751
Moreover, a temporary bus route K71 (Tin Shui Wai Town Centre – West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station circular) will also be introduced between 21 August (Saturday) and 25 September (Saturday).
Mr Lai added, "Since West Rail has started operation, passengers enjoy a fast and reliable railway service and a significant number of long-distance Light Rail passengers have shifted to West Rail. As a result, demand for shorter but higher frequency Light Rail routes feeding passengers to West Rail is increasing. The new service arrangement will further enhance Light Rail’s role as a major feeder for West Rail in the North West New Territories."
There will be extensive education and publicity programmes including posters, banners, notices and public announcements at stops to enable passengers adjust to the new routes
For details on the new service arrangements, passengers may call the KCRC hotline at 2929 3399.
