West Rail service disruption
West Rail southbound service was disrupted in the tunnel between Tsuen Wan West Station and Mei Foo Station at about 8:45pm due to the failure of the train’s braking system.
During the incident, bi-directional train operation was maintained between Tsuen Wan West Station and Mei Foo Station. West Rail trains ran at 8 to 10-minute frequency between Tuen Mun and Nam Cheong. Since the affected train could not be operated, another service train was deployed to pick up the passengers on the affected train. During this period, the service between Tsuen Wan West Station and Nam Cheong Station was temporarily suspended for more than 10 minutes. At 9:20pm, about 50 affected passengers boarded onto the service train for Tsuen Wan West Station and made transfer there to continue their southbound journey. Thereafter, through train service was resumed at a 10-minute headway.
At 10:50pm, the affected train was removed from the scene after urgent repair. West Rail service immediately returned to normal.
Public announcements and notices were made to inform passengers of the service arrangement. Additional staff were also deployed at stations and inside train compartments to provide assistance to passengers.
KCRC apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
