The Mody Road Subway, the first fully air-conditioned public subway equipped with travellators, opened today, providing greater convenience for people traveling between Nathan Road and Tsim Sha Tsui East area.
Covering a length of 400 metres, the Mody Road Subway forms part of the Tsim Sha Tsui Interchange Subway which is built to facilitate interchange between the new East Tsim Sha Tsui Station and the MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station.
The Mody Road Subway opens between 5:50 am and 1:15 am daily. It takes just about three minutes to travel through the subway if one walks on the travellators.
Speaking at the Subway Opening Ceremony, Mr Wan Man-lung, Principal Government Engineer, Highways Department said that the opening of the Mody Road Subway marks the completion of the first section of the new Tsim Sha Tsui Interchange Subway system and at the same time serves as the preface of the commissioning of the KCR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station in the later part of the year.
Other officiating guests of the ceremony included Mr Joseph Choi, General Manager, Construction (ERE&KSL), KCRC, Mr Wilfred Lau, Head of Operations, MTR Corporation Ltd, Mr Augustine Choi, Yau Tsim Mong District Officer and Mr Chan Man-yu, Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council.
