KCRC extends fare discounts for East Rail and Light Rail
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today announced that its Managing Board has decided to extend East Rail’s Second Trip Discount Scheme and Light Rail’s enhanced bonus scheme for another six months to 31 March 2005. Both schemes launched on 1 April 2003 are due to expire on 30 September this year.
Mr Michael Tien, KCRC Chairman said, "The Board’s decision has taken into account the views of passengers, the prevailing economic situation as well as the financial condition of the Corporation.
"Recently, although Hong Kong’s economy is on the verge of recovery, the unemployment rate is still on the high side. We therefore decided to extend our current concession schemes for another six months. However, since the Corporation’s profit is expected to decline this year, it might be difficult for us to extend the concessions after this period," said Mr Tien.
The scheme offers a 20% fare discount to all Octopus card users who make a second trip on East Rail within the same day. The concession will not apply to trips to and from Sha Tin Racecourse and Lo Wu.
Furthermore, Light Rail passengers using personalised Octopus cards will enjoy a rebate at $3.20 for every $30 they spend on Light Rail fares over a six-day period.
