Ride on KCR on New Year’s Eve to help tsunami victims

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) announced today that the Corporation will donate all the fare revenue of railway services collected during the extended service hours on New Year’s Eve to help the victims of the tsunamis in South Asia.
“KCRC undertakes this fund-raising campaign to join forces with the community in helping the victims and their families in this catastrophe. Passengers can support the cause simply by riding on KCR after the countdown tonight,” said Mr Y T Li, Senior Director – Transport.
“All the fare revenue of railway services collected between 1:30 am and 5:30 am on 1 January 2005 will be donated to Hong Kong Red Cross for this cause,” said Mr Li.
In addition, the Corporation has arranged for charity organisations to put up donation boxes at KCRC stations to collect donations from the public.
The Corporation has also organised a donation campaign among the staff members. KCRC has pledged to match the staff donations on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to a maximum of $200,000 as contribution from the Corporation, in order to encourage more donations. All these proceeds will also be donated to the grief-stricken countries via Hong Kong Red Cross.
