Collision between Light Rail vehicle and KMB Bus
A light rail vehicle on route 706 and an empty KMB bus collided at the intersection between Tin Sau Road and Light Rail tracks in Tin Shui Wai at 10:34am this morning. Light Rail routes 705 and 706, as well as route 761 (Tin Wing – Yuen Long Terminus) were diverted.
The KMB bus ran into the Light Rail tracks after the collision and blocked Light Rail traffic on that section. Services to four Light Rail stops were suspended. KCRC immediately arranged to have a towing vehicle remove the bus from the scene. Normal Light Rail services resumed at 1:00pm. Four Light Rail passengers suffered minor injuries in the incident. They were sent to hospital and discharged after treatment.
During the period when services were affected, KCRC had arranged 12 buses providing feeder services to supplement routes 705 and 706. KCRC regularly updated the public and passengers about the incident and the service arrangements through the electronic media, and through continuous announcements at West Rail concourses, Light Rail platforms and on Light Rail Vehicles. Additional staff were also deployed at Light Rail stops to answer questions and provide assistance.
A preliminary investigation conducted by KCRC revealed that Light Rail signals were functioning properly at the junction at the time of the incident and the concerned Light Rail vehicle was passing the junction according to procedures.
The Corporation apologises for any inconvenience caused to passengers affected by the service disruption and has sent its regards to the injured. The police are investigating the incident.
