Collection from "Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme III" on display at KCR Art Corner

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) has teamed up with the Art Promotion Office for the first time to display the work of a local young artist, Michael Kwong at the KCR Art Corner in East Tsim Sha Tsui Station.
Specialised in illustration and character design, Michael has a child’s heart, and his mind is filled with all kinds of innovative ideas. He believes that the world is beautiful and full of hopes. The theme of his exhibition is "Es Muss Sein", in German, or in English, "It must be", which fully reflects his persistence in pursuing his ideals and his enthusiasm towards life. Even when faced with difficulties and obstacles, he would keep going.
KCRC launched the KCR Art Corner in East Tsim Sha Tsui Station since it opened last year in support of the promotion and development of local art education. It has also provided a new platform for local artists to share their works with the public.
"In addition to providing value-added service to our passengers, KCRC also cares for the cultural development of Hong Kong," said Mrs Grace Lam, General Manager – Corporate Affairs, KCRC. This exhibition is the first collaboration between KCRC and the Art Promotion Office with an aim to bringing art to the community through the display of works produced by outstanding local artists in the railway premises." I believe this exhibition will open up a new window for passengers to appreciate art in their busy and hectic lives," added Mrs Lam.
The appreciation of Michael’s art is a pleasure in itself. His works are childlike, full of colour and vivid imagination, making people smile. The exhibition, featuring 18 pieces of illustrations and character designs by Michael Kwong, will be on till end of January 2006. Passengers and the public are most welcome to visit the exhibition at the East Rail East Tsim Sha Tsui Station and to share the artistic dreams of this local young artist.
This year the Art Promotion Office has organised the third "Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme". A total of 124 applications were received. Michael Kwong is one of the outstanding artists among the 12 artists chosen by the scheme. Michael has won a number of design awards which include "Iinternational Commercial Art Designer Competition Merit Award" (2004), "New York Society of Illustrator Award" (2000), "The Art-Director Club Merit Award" (2000) and "Strathmore Illustration Competition Silver Award" (2000).
