New Concourse at East Rail Sheung Shui Station opens
 
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) announced that the new concourse at East Rail Sheung Shui Station will commence its service on 28 January 2006 (This Saturday).
The new concourse occupies an extended area of 1,400 square metres at south of the station (equivalent to 3.5 standard basketball courts). The daily handling capacity of passengers for the station will be increased from 180,000 to 250,000. A new entrance will also be available at the new southern concourse to directly link with the footbridge for Sheung Shui Centre and Yuk Po Court, to further enhance the accessibility of the station.
KCRC has also made enhancement to the facilities at Sheung Shui Station to strive for better services, including adding 12 ticket gates, 1 fare adjustment office, 4 escalators and 2 staircases linking both northern and southern platforms, 3 ticket vending machines, 2 add-value machines and 4 shops. The platform for Lo Wu has also been expanded from a total area of 513 to 1,382 square metres to accommodate an additional 40% in number of passengers.
The entire project for East Rail Sheung Shui Station costs a total of $138 million. It was started in July 2003 to dovetail with the commissioning of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line in 2007.
KCRC will take regular reviews on the existing station facilities and continue to conduct improvements works, in order to raise service quality and cope with passengers' needs.
