KCRC "Safety Campaign 2006" Launched Today

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) launched the opening ceremony of KCRC "Safety Campaign 2006" today, to formally set off the public safety education activities for this year.
Today's "Safety Campaign 2006" sparked off a series of safety promotion activities. In view of the previous cases of falling onto the track and trespassing of passengers, KCRC will put focus on publicising the safety message of "Trespassing is strictly prohibited" through public education activities. The two-week grace period will follow the opening ceremony of 23 April during which warnings will be issued to offenders. KCRC will take prosecutions against any trespassers from 8 May onwards when the grace period ends. Pursuant to KCRC By-laws, any person trespassed onto the rail track without prior permission is an offence in law. The offender is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $5,000 and to imprisonment for six months.
The attending guests included Mr. Selwyn Lai, KCRC Acting General Manager - East Rail Operations, Mr. Alex Lau, KCRC Safety and Quality Manager, Mr. Michael Kwan, KCRC East Rail Traffic Operations Manager as well as famous stars Miss Niki Chow and Mr. Sammul Chan. The guests publicised the message of "Trespassing is strictly prohibited" at East Rail Hung Hom Station so as to reinforce it to passengers.
The safety campaign will last until the end of this year to proactively disseminate the safety message to passengers. Other activities include:
To work jointly with Commercial Radio 881 to host "KCRC Safety Campaign 2006" Phone-in Q&A Games and invite the audience from the Mainland to participate. The winners will have chance to join one-day visits to Hong Kong and obtain free-ride tickets.
To arrange posters, stickers and banners for platforms, concourses, ticket vending machines, escalators as well as waiting boxes, to remind passengers of the safety messages.
To deploy station assistants at Lo Wu Station during the Golden Week of May to focus on publicity and will distribute leaflets on "Safety Tip" and souvenirs.
