Drill on Ma On Shan Rail
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) carried out a drill at Wu Kai Sha Station of Ma On Shan Rail on 22 August morning. The drill was designed to test and enhance the co-ordination and communication among KCRC, the Fire Services Department, the Hong Kong Police Force in handling incident in accordance with the emergency handling rules and procedures. The exercise was held after operating hours to avoid disruption to train service.
The drill simulated an accident that when a train was approaching Wu Kai Sha Station, the train driver saw a person walking on track. The train driver applied emergency brake and sounded the horn immediately when he suspected that the train hit a person. The train was stopped and the Platform Emergency Stop Plunger was activated. The train driver made an inspection and found the train had derailed and a person was lying unconsciously underneath the train. He made a report to East Rail Control Centre. ERCC summoned emergency services.
KCRC organizes a number of large-scale emergency drills with external parties every year to test the responsiveness, co-ordination and communication among KCRC staff and emergency services organizations.
The teams are rescuing the injured at the drill at Ma On Shan Rail’s Wu Kai Sha Station.
