KCRC strives to improve Light Rail service

In response to the actions taken by a group of people today to express their views on the Light Rail service improvement plan that will commence in early October, a spokesman for the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) expressed regret for the group who had taken actions that had breached the North-West Railway By-laws and affected other passengers while they were expressing their opinion. The Corporation reserves the right to prosecute those who have breached the By-laws. The spokesman stressed that the Corporation would make minor service adjustments to enhance the efficiency of the overall Light Rail service in Tin Shui Wai district. The plan is expected to benefit 270,000 Tin Shui Wai residents.
With effect from 8 October, Light Rail will implement improvement measures including combining routes 761 and 761P. Terminus of route 761 will be relocated to Tin Yat with other end remaining at Yuen Long Terminus. Simultaneously, the frequencies of routes 761P, 705 and 706 will be increased for 70,000 to 80,000 passengers to enjoy a more frequent Light Rail service in Tin Shui Wai district and for interchange with West Rail. To help passengers getting familiarised with the new arrangements, KCRC will offer a fare discount of more than 10% to passengers using Octopus cards to start their journey at the 5 affected stops on route 761 for Hang Mei Tsuen Stop and any stop en route Yuen Long. The fare discount will also be offered on return journeys. Adults can save $0.5 and children/senior citizens can save $0.3 for each journey. The discount will be offered from 8 October to 15 October 2006.
Details of the new service arrangements are as follows:

They may also take either Route 705 or 706 to West Rail Tin Shui Wai Station for transfer to West Rail.
To ensure resources are used effectively to benefit more residents in the Northwest New Territories, KCRC will cease the operation of the bus route K2P (Tin Shui Wai Centre – Tuen Mun Town Centre), which has an extremely low patronage. KCRC will reallocate the resources to other routes with greater passenger demand.
KCRC will keep track of passengers' opinions on the new arrangements and review Light Rail's service from time to time to ensure that it can meet the needs of the travelling public.
