Joint Session with Mainland Rail Authorities Held
 
The Second Joint Session between the Mainland and Hong Kong railways was held in Hong Kong on 17 January 2007, leading to the signing of a protocol by the two sides to strengthen co-operation and communication on intercity passenger and freight services.
At the meeting the performance of rail passenger and freight services between Hong Kong and the Mainland in 2006 was reviewed. Amongst other resolutions, it was agreed that to meet growing demand, the daily number of through trains between Hong Kong and Guangzhou should be increased later this year.
The meeting was chaired by the leader of the Hong Kong party, Mr. James Blake, the Chief Executive Officer of KCRC. The Mainland delegation was headed by the Deputy Director-General of HK, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Railways, Mr. An Hexiang, and members included representatives from railway authorities in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
