Lok Ma Chau Spur Line inaugurated today
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) today celebrated the commencement of service of Lok Ma Chau Spur Line of the East Rail.
Officiating at a joint ceremony at Lok Ma Chau Station were the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang; Chairman of KCRC, Mr Michael Tien; Commissioner for Transport, Mr Wong Chi Kong; Acting Director of Highways, Mr Cheung Hing Wan; Senior Director-Transport of KCRC, Mr Y. T. Li; Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Mr Li Hongzhong; Executive Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr Tang Bingquan; Shenzhen Mayor, Mr Xu Zongheng; Director of Shenzhen Metro Co Ltd, Ms Zhang Xiaoli and Chairman of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr Li Decheng.
The 7.4-kilometre spur line, diverging from the mainline north of Sheung Shui Station, provides an alternative crossing for East Rail passengers to Shenzhen. Operating at a 10 to 12-minute interval, the journey from East Rail's southern terminus at East Tsim Sha Tsui Station to Lok Ma Chau Station takes about 45 minutes, without any interchange.
"The Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and the Shenzhen Metro Line 4 will provide a more direct and convenient boundary crossing service serving the combined population of 20 millions, and will facilitate economic and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Shenzhen." Mr Michael Tien said at the ceremony.
"We have overcome the many challenges arising in the course of implementing this project." Mr Tien concluded at the ceremony. "Thanks to the hard work of all the parties involved, the project has been brought to a successful fruition contributing to closer ties between the two sides."
With connection to the Shenzhen Futian Port Joint Inspection Building and the Shenzhen Huanggang Metro Station below, rail passengers making crossing at Lok Ma Chau will have direct access to the Shenzhen Metro system.
