Rail Merger Marks A Time To Remember With Commemorative Ticket and Train Models Set

A new chapter on Hong Kong railway history will begin when the operations of the MTR Corporation and Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation merge on 2 December 2007 – the Rail Merger Appointed Day.
To mark this momentous occasion, the two rail operators are jointly issuing a cleverly-designed Rail Merger Commemorative Ticket that is one-of-a-kind. The magnetic ticket can be used at both MTR and KCR ticket gates and regardless of which direction it is held, the graphic still shows "2007", the year of the merger. Passengers are invited to use the ticket on the Appointed Day for unlimited rides throughout the merged network (except Airport Express, Light Rail, MTR Bus, first class of East Rail Line and Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and Racecourse stations).
"As we make history, we want to take the opportunity to look back through history at the important milestones on the development of Hong Kong's railway infrastructure," said Ms Annie Leung, Marketing Planning Manager of MTR Corporation. "That is why we have designed a special holder for the ticket that highlights other important railway dates and events."
Priced at HK$50 each, the Rail Merger Commemorative Ticket will be available for sale from 11 November 2007 (Sunday) at all MTR Customer Service Centres (except Airport Express) and KCR Ticket Offices (except Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and Racecourse stations), while stock lasts. Only two sets may be purchased with each transaction and after use on the Appointed Day, tickets will be returned to passengers as a keepsake.
"Indeed, any railway journey real or imagined would not be complete without trains," added Mr Victor Leung, Marketing Manager – Service Planning of KCRC. "Along with the Rail Merger Commemorative Ticket, we have also put together a set of nostalgic train models for passengers to add to their own collection of railway memories."
Priced at $188 each, the limited edition Rail Merger Commemorative Model Trains – Classic Series Set includes:
The KCR Vulcan steam train which served passengers from1946 to 1957,
The KCR 50 Series Locomotive (G12), the first diesel engine in service from 1955 to 2004 and,
The MTR Metro-Cammell M-Train which came into service in 1979 and continues to serve passengers after undergoing a modernization programme which was completed in 2002.
The Model Trains Set is available by subscription only from 18 to 30 November 2007, while stock lasts. Passengers can obtain subscription forms from 11 November 2007 through MTR Customer Service Centres and KCR Ticket Offices as listed above. When they submit their order forms, passengers will receive a postcard set featuring historic moments in railway development. They will also receive a coupon which can be used to redeem the Commemorative Model Trains Set from 24 February 2008 to 7 March 2008 at selected station.
