The Kowloon–Canton Railway Corporation
has a long history dating back to more than 100 years ago, when its forerunner started operating the first railway in Hong Kong in 1910. Since 1982, it has become the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, a statutory public corporation wholly owned by the Government. In 2007, the Corporation granted a service concession to the MTR Corporation Limited to operate its several railway lines. KCRC has since become an asset manager overseeing the implementation of the service concession agreement and the holder of the railway system, land and assets concerned.
